ROLL TIDE

17 National Championships –

I have been fortunate enough to witness the last 8 in person.

Funny thing is, in Alabama, seldom do you pick your “Team”.  It is usually handed down generation to generation.   You are either a Bama fan, or a fan of the team on the plains. Cool

My greatest memories of the Crimson Tide are numerous.  From my late Father and I listening to John Forney and Doug Layton paint the picture of each play via the radio in our living room, to watching the 92 National Championship Game live in NOLA with my late Mother.  Or the 2012 National Championship with our late son, Justin Hornsby. Seeing the last 5 National Title Games live with my wife Michele (as a fan) I have lived the dream.  And I must say the latest National Championship in Atlanta rivals that 92 game from the standpoint of excitement and awe.

You hear players say “I dreamed of playing at Bama” – well as a fan, growing up in the tiny town of Goodwater Alabama, I dreamed of seeing Bama play in person.  That dream came true as I saw my first Bama game in 1977, at the age of 18.  Of course Bama rolled to a 55-6 victory over the Cardinals of Louisville in a game that is forever etched in my memory.

Back in those days, memorabilia wasn’t available like it is now, and I became a collector of “unique” Bama stuff.   Good luck stuff – and the passion of collecting Alabama Memorabilia began to rival the passion of being a fan.  Whether it was a statue of an Elephant or a Bama Football player, and I begin to collect unique things as the years passed.

My collection of unique Memorabilia has continued to grow, and turned into my collection of Tide Rides. Each year for the past 8 years, one or more of the Tide Rides, have been part of the annual Bama Homecoming in Tuscaloosa.  That too has been a great experience as a fan, to see the faces of other fans enjoy the parade.

I developed this space to share those with you as a collector or as a Bama fan, I hope you enjoy.

Each week during football season, I update this site (Blog-Scroll Down) and share my thoughts and my predictions about the upcoming game.

To the left, you can click on the links for portions of my collection and the Tide Rides.

I would like to invite you to check out what the folks at Reese's have done.  The official candy of NCAA football, contacted me with interest in doing a story about "TIDE RIDES" and the fan who would have such a collection.  Yours truly obliged, and it was a good decision.  The crew spent a few hours with Michele and me and were the nicest people.  The entire crew was fantastic, but special thanks to Joey, Sarah and Marty.  You are welcome back anytime !!! There is a link at the bottom for you to enjoy the segment..entitled, "BAMA'S BIGGEST FAN"  ....yeah, I know.....  keep the comments about the title to yourselves...

WEEK 10 BAMA vs LSU

BAMA HOMECOMING

Another great adventure is in the books for the Bama Homecoming Parade and TideRides.  Check out the (tab)Homecoming 2012 for Pics.

It was great day for a Parade, and an even greater one for the Crimson Tide as they coasted to victory against the Ms. State Bullies. In a game labeled as clearly Bama’s “toughest test”, the Tide passed with flying colors, to the tune of 38 – 7.  So now those who said Bama was facing it toughest test last week,  are now saying Ms.State, had not played anyone.  Now with LSU on the horizon Bama indeed faces it “toughest opponent” of 2012.

Game of the Century III – Yes last year’s regular season game vs. LSU was billed Game of the Century, LSU wins the field goal match - then the rematch in the Big Easy BCS CHAMPIONSHIP rematch part deux – BAMA DOMINATES – now in Baton Rouge, Bama and LSU !!

Bama Unbeaten

LSU Once Beaten

I feel like a person with a rubber neck at Wimbledon – back and forth, back and forth –

Bama is an easy favorite on paper – the stats speak for themselves – and of course the cliché this game isn’t played on paper comes to mind.  LSU 22 home game winning streak!!!

Speaking of Stats – Bama leads almost every category in Defense – with LSU not very far behind.  But on Offense, Bama is clearly the better team.  LSU – has had trouble scoring points against good opponents with only 6 against FL on the road.  Bama has been a great Road Team, and that bodes well with LSU ridding that home winning streak.

As I look at all the stats, and tangibles, I think Alabama wins handily, but the intangibles and the fact that LSU is at home and seeking revenge, I think it will be very close.  I do think that this game with all the hype last year at Tuscaloosa was a distraction to the Bama staff and team, I hope that is true in Baton Rouge this year.

My fearless Prediction – BAMA 17 – LSU 13                ROLL TIDE

Week 9 - Homecomming at the Capstone !!!

Smoke em if you got em…. For those of you old enough, you know what that means – Bama big over Tenn to the tune of 41-13.  The fact that the Tenn Band played rocky top when the UT kicker added 3 points with a field goal, late in the 4th – speaks volumes as to how far Tenn hasn’t come.  Bama scored early and often, McCarron had a red letter day and personal best with over 300 yards.  Bama continues to pile up amazing stats.  Example for 8 consecutive weeks, The Tide is #1 – A school record.  I speak often of the 70’s and the Dynasty of The Bear… it is becoming harder and harder to ignore just how much impact is being made toward similar things now.  The domination over the past 4 years is amazing.  If (and that is only an if) Bama makes it to the BCS Championship game this year… Dynasty will be the word de jour.

HOMECOMING!!! My favorite game ! Why? I get to display some of the Tide Rides and enjoy those smiling fans as we wind our way through the parade route. If you are there, make sure you look for them.

Bama takes on undefeated Miss State. The Dawgs are really fired up and rightfully so.  It is seldom that both teams come into this game undefeated.  Vegas says Bama by 24 – WOW – one can only think the odds makers are a bit enamored with the Tide.   But I must say Bama continues to dominate, and I don’t see it any different this week.

BAMA 45 – Dawgs 20

Week 8 - The Third Saturday in October

Bama VS Tenn – Ok, I’m not ashamed to admit, this game makes the short hair on my neck stand at attention.   Memories of this game and the rivalry in general are something I will always cherish among the many memories of the Great Crimson Tide.  To hear John Forney and Doug Layton begin to describe the colors of fall from Neyland Stadium…as they painted the picture in your mind of the checkered end zones as the teams took the field.  General Neyland – Coach Bryant !!!  I remember trying so desperately to get the newspaper during game week to read about practices, and you could be guaranteed of this line “Alabama was piping in ROCKTOP over loudspeakers, in todays practice”   Coach Bryant had a “mad on” for UT, that is certain.   So imagine my surprise when I hear Bama fans saying things like “this rivalry isn’t what it used to be” or “Bama – UT just doesn’t seem as important as it once was”.  Fellows and ladies let me tell you, as a Bama fan, your dislike for UT ranks right up there with the dislike for AU.  That said –

Sorry for my absence last week, it was unavoidable – Bama controlled Mizu early and had a minor lapse during the “LIGHTENING DELAY” but poured it on late in route to a 42-10 route.

The line on UT is Bama by 20, and I have in the back of my mind, Bama a double digit fav over the Vols, blocking 2 FG’s to win.  Many say Bama will face in Tyler Bray, its’ toughest challenge to date in the passing game, on what some say is an untested secondary.  UT’s D has let up an average of 26 points per game, and I think Bama will score at least 35, and I simply don’t see UT scoring that many, so my fearless pick

BAMA 41 – UT 17

Remember nothing sucks like the big orange – Roll Tide !
