ROLL TIDE

17 National Championships –

I have been fortunate enough to witness the last 8 in person.

Funny thing is, in Alabama, seldom do you pick your “Team”.  It is usually handed down generation to generation.   You are either a Bama fan, or a fan of the team on the plains. Cool

My greatest memories of the Crimson Tide are numerous.  From my late Father and I listening to John Forney and Doug Layton paint the picture of each play via the radio in our living room, to watching the 92 National Championship Game live in NOLA with my late Mother.  Or the 2012 National Championship with our late son, Justin Hornsby. Seeing the last 5 National Title Games live with my wife Michele (as a fan) I have lived the dream.  And I must say the latest National Championship in Atlanta rivals that 92 game from the standpoint of excitement and awe.

You hear players say “I dreamed of playing at Bama” – well as a fan, growing up in the tiny town of Goodwater Alabama, I dreamed of seeing Bama play in person.  That dream came true as I saw my first Bama game in 1977, at the age of 18.  Of course Bama rolled to a 55-6 victory over the Cardinals of Louisville in a game that is forever etched in my memory.

Back in those days, memorabilia wasn’t available like it is now, and I became a collector of “unique” Bama stuff.   Good luck stuff – and the passion of collecting Alabama Memorabilia began to rival the passion of being a fan.  Whether it was a statue of an Elephant or a Bama Football player, and I begin to collect unique things as the years passed.

My collection of unique Memorabilia has continued to grow, and turned into my collection of Tide Rides. Each year for the past 8 years, one or more of the Tide Rides, have been part of the annual Bama Homecoming in Tuscaloosa.  That too has been a great experience as a fan, to see the faces of other fans enjoy the parade.

I developed this space to share those with you as a collector or as a Bama fan, I hope you enjoy.

Each week during football season, I update this site (Blog-Scroll Down) and share my thoughts and my predictions about the upcoming game.

To the left, you can click on the links for portions of my collection and the Tide Rides.

I would like to invite you to check out what the folks at Reese's have done.  The official candy of NCAA football, contacted me with interest in doing a story about "TIDE RIDES" and the fan who would have such a collection.  Yours truly obliged, and it was a good decision.  The crew spent a few hours with Michele and me and were the nicest people.  The entire crew was fantastic, but special thanks to Joey, Sarah and Marty.  You are welcome back anytime !!! There is a link at the bottom for you to enjoy the segment..entitled, "BAMA'S BIGGEST FAN"  ....yeah, I know.....  keep the comments about the title to yourselves...

Bama 3 and 0 getting ready for Arkansas in Tuscaloosa.
Bama really looked good (sans perhaps 2 plays) against North Texas.   Rolling up more than 500 yards in Total Offense all the while holding its opponent to less than 200.

Bamas QB - McElroy again, displayed why he is the starter, going 13 of 15 with one drop.   He really shows more poise as the games progress.

Bama rolled to defeat NT 53 to 7.

It was really nice to see Bamas players who don't get much time, get into the game.  Star Jackson played a bit in the first half and all of the second half but a couple of series.  He looked good considering and should be capable of stepping in if needed.

Bama ratchets up the competition this Sat in Bryant Denny when they take on Arkansas.  Wow, I watched Ark and Ga. and I am still confused.... lots of points scored, and Ga won but not before the two amassed over 1100 yards in total offense.  The balls were really flying all over the field.   Arkansas under the tootlidage of former Auburn assistant Bobby Patrino looked unbelievable on the passing game, thanks to a transfer QB from Michigan Ryan Mallett.  He posted big numbers against Ga in spite of the loss.  I look for Bama to take a hit or too from him, prior to making the necessary adjustments.

So all that being said...oh and the weather .. well that will be a factor too.  Bama has been pretty good this year at not committing Turnovers, but not as good as usual at making turnovers occur.

Here is my faithful pick :   The Hogs will hang with the tide for the first half...but Bama will simply be too much for them and figure a way to put Mallett on the pallet :)

Bama Rips FIU - Readies for North Texas

I have on many occasion quoted former Coach Gene Stallings, " If you don't think these games against so call inferior opponents are important?  Just try loosing one."

Bama wasn't close to loosing to FIU but did manage to make the first half a very interesting one.  But looking at the game again, really take away a goof, snafu and a hiccup here and there, and Bama was crushing them in the stats, tho the scoreboard indicated different.

FIU played tough for the first qtr and into the second, but again this week Bama exerted it's strength in the 4th qtr and won going away....

Bama did prove a couple of things.

1 with Julio out of the game, the passing game didn't suffer.
2 McElroy completed an astonishing 14 passes in a row, and now holds the completion record at Al hopefully establishing himself as a Good QB in the SEC.
3 Bamas Frosh RB Trent Richardson is "as advertised" ripping the D of FIU for big yards.

This week at 1120 on Regional TV Bama takes on North Texas .  I honestly dont' know much about NT but Odds makers are putting Bama as a 35 and more Pt Fav.  With an over Under of 52.

My fearless pic:  Look for Bama to pour it on early and play some of the reserves ....

Bama needs to pick it up on Special Teams...

BAMA ROLLS OVER HOKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 34-24
Before I begin my post today, let me say... my heart still goes out to all the victims, relatives, and everyone affected by what happened 8 years ago today..  God Bless America !!!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

WOW, was it exciting seeing the Crimson Tide run on the field for the first time in 09 or what?

Don't know about you but those chills were running up and down my body.

First half was really Bama's but breaks, mistakes and some good plays by Va Tech, made it very nerve wracking.   Bama did look very good in the 4th as they seemd to put it in another gear.... and dominate.

To me a totally uneducated fan, Bama's D is everything advertised... the Offense, well .. I think the Offense may be better than folks think.  To me they manhandled Va Tech and they have a good Defense.

Time will tell.
This week, Bama and Fla Int.  Bama hung 38 on this group, last time they played ... and I expect much of the same this week.
