ROLL TIDE

17 National Championships –

I have been fortunate enough to witness the last 8 in person.

Funny thing is, in Alabama, seldom do you pick your “Team”.  It is usually handed down generation to generation.   You are either a Bama fan, or a fan of the team on the plains. Cool

My greatest memories of the Crimson Tide are numerous.  From my late Father and I listening to John Forney and Doug Layton paint the picture of each play via the radio in our living room, to watching the 92 National Championship Game live in NOLA with my late Mother.  Or the 2012 National Championship with our late son, Justin Hornsby. Seeing the last 5 National Title Games live with my wife Michele (as a fan) I have lived the dream.  And I must say the latest National Championship in Atlanta rivals that 92 game from the standpoint of excitement and awe.

You hear players say “I dreamed of playing at Bama” – well as a fan, growing up in the tiny town of Goodwater Alabama, I dreamed of seeing Bama play in person.  That dream came true as I saw my first Bama game in 1977, at the age of 18.  Of course Bama rolled to a 55-6 victory over the Cardinals of Louisville in a game that is forever etched in my memory.

Back in those days, memorabilia wasn’t available like it is now, and I became a collector of “unique” Bama stuff.   Good luck stuff – and the passion of collecting Alabama Memorabilia began to rival the passion of being a fan.  Whether it was a statue of an Elephant or a Bama Football player, and I begin to collect unique things as the years passed.

My collection of unique Memorabilia has continued to grow, and turned into my collection of Tide Rides. Each year for the past 8 years, one or more of the Tide Rides, have been part of the annual Bama Homecoming in Tuscaloosa.  That too has been a great experience as a fan, to see the faces of other fans enjoy the parade.

I developed this space to share those with you as a collector or as a Bama fan, I hope you enjoy.

Each week during football season, I update this site (Blog-Scroll Down) and share my thoughts and my predictions about the upcoming game.

To the left, you can click on the links for portions of my collection and the Tide Rides.

I would like to invite you to check out what the folks at Reese's have done.  The official candy of NCAA football, contacted me with interest in doing a story about "TIDE RIDES" and the fan who would have such a collection.  Yours truly obliged, and it was a good decision.  The crew spent a few hours with Michele and me and were the nicest people.  The entire crew was fantastic, but special thanks to Joey, Sarah and Marty.  You are welcome back anytime !!! There is a link at the bottom for you to enjoy the segment..entitled, "BAMA'S BIGGEST FAN"  ....yeah, I know.....  keep the comments about the title to yourselves...

I am so Thankful for many things.....but 11-0 is hard to beat.

The Miss State Dawgs put up a battle for a while, but succumbed to the Tide's methodical game and the Defense....when the game ended... Bama 32 Miss State 7.

Bama broke another streak... 0-2 against the Dawgs for the past 2 years.  AND Bama is 11-0 for the first time since 1994.  That year Bama finished the regular season with a win over Auburn and was beaten in the SEC Championship Game, a heart-breaker... 24 - 23 against the Gators.  Can you say Deju Vu?  Well as the Chipmunk on ESPN Game Day says "Not so Fast My Friend" . :)  Bama has a date with Auburn this Saturday and speaking of streaks....well Tommy held up "the finger on the Other hand" last year and that is a streak I would like to see end, as I know would all Bama fans.

Bama is Favored by 12 - 14 depending on where you look.... Bama had fared well this year when favored, but better on the road than at home.  Speaking of Stats... Auburn has played on the road 4 times this year... and won ..one of those games.. Miss State.  3-2 .  Not sure about this stat but heard today that the biggest stadium the Tigers have played in on the road this year ... 60,000 people.  So I am again hoping that the Tigers step onto Bryant Denny and are met with a LOUD 90plus Thousand who will make it difficult for them to hear signals and make the game intimidating for them.

I dreamed about the game last night... first time in about ohhhhhh 14 years, coincidental ?...I think not.   Most folks say "throw the record books out the window on Iron Bowl day" and I don't have the stats to back this up, but I am almost certain the favored team has won more times than not.

I am now dreaming of a 12-0 on Saturday.....I am guessing around 6:00 or so.  I also hope when Coach Saban leaves the game he holds one finger HIGH in the air, not to indicate the win over the Tigers, but to indicate where Bama will begin 2009 and end 2008 as the #1 team in The Country.

LSU IN OT..now 3 games stand between Tide and NC bout ..but...one game at a time.
WOW..LSU OT 26 - 21 .  A BARN Burner, a Donnybrooke, a Nail Biter, name it call it what you want,  Bama did almost everything it could to give the game to the Tigers, but....the (Bama) pulled it off in classic style.  What a great game, Bama picked LSU QB 3 times, one was for a score.  One was to prevent LSU from scoring in OT ..... yet Bama turned the ball over 3 times .... again doing as much as possible to give the game to the Tigers.   This is a game that Bama played in my opinion, their worst game of the year.   Mistake after Mistake..... yet one of the characteristics of a Champion is the ability to win close games, and Bama did that.
I won't chronical the game but move to the next... MISS STATE.
The Bullies are a dissapointment in Starkville and understandably so, it was thought that Head Coach Sly and the Family Croom would be doing better, but they have struggled on O and on D.   But Bama has that big ole Target on their back and Every Game is the most important game of the year.

They did sew up a spot on Dec 6 against Fla for the SEC Championship, regardless, however to pursue the goal of NC...Bama must win and play each game as the next game.

I think Bama at hom e will handle the Bulldogs, but it may be close for a while.

Homecoming Win...Bama Rises to #1 and Saban returns to Death Valley

For the first time since the 1980's Bama is ranked #1 in the regular Season Poll!!! ROLL TIDE!!! Of course that does bring an inordinate amount of pressure, but something tells me this team and Coach Saban are undaunted and up to the task.

As Bama finished off the Red Wolves of Arkansas State 35 - 0 the Bama fans basked in the late afternoon warmth of a fall day in Tuscaloosa, as the floats began to be taken apart it was obvious on this Halloween night that Bama was to be treated.  The Number 2 team in the nation ... along with many of it's fans watched a Texas team get dismantled by the Texas Tech Red Raiders.  Of course the Horns were numeral uno, and now Alabama holds that distinguished spot....as they are now 9 and 0 and headed to Baton Rouge for a showdown with the Bengal Tigers.

The week really got away from me, as I sit and type this on Friday before tomorrows game. If I said I am not nervous about our trip to LSU, I'd be lying.   But, I am sooo excited about the prospects of beating the Tigers, and moving closer to the SEC championship game ....then ..oh excuse me...one game at a time.

Bama should win this game, I believe they are the better team, I think the Tide Defense is better, the O line is better and our QB is better...and did I mention Head Coaching?  Well I think most agree with me without putting it out there.

That being said....The Media Hype surrounding this game is very big.  ESPN Gameday is in Baton Rouge, to cover the Tide and Tigers on this Coach Sabans return to his beloved Tiger Stadium.  LSU fans have burned effigies, they have BillBoards with Saban being engulfed in flames.... I think you get the picture.  They are angry with Nick for coming back to the SEC but coming to their nemeses The Crimson Tide!!!!

I see LSU and their fans being Hyped and perhaps capturing the Momentum early, but I think Bama is too strong and will continue to pound the ball and take the wind out of their sails.
