ROLL TIDE

17 National Championships –

I have been fortunate enough to witness the last 8 in person.

Funny thing is, in Alabama, seldom do you pick your “Team”.  It is usually handed down generation to generation.   You are either a Bama fan, or a fan of the team on the plains. Cool

My greatest memories of the Crimson Tide are numerous.  From my late Father and I listening to John Forney and Doug Layton paint the picture of each play via the radio in our living room, to watching the 92 National Championship Game live in NOLA with my late Mother.  Or the 2012 National Championship with our late son, Justin Hornsby. Seeing the last 5 National Title Games live with my wife Michele (as a fan) I have lived the dream.  And I must say the latest National Championship in Atlanta rivals that 92 game from the standpoint of excitement and awe.

You hear players say “I dreamed of playing at Bama” – well as a fan, growing up in the tiny town of Goodwater Alabama, I dreamed of seeing Bama play in person.  That dream came true as I saw my first Bama game in 1977, at the age of 18.  Of course Bama rolled to a 55-6 victory over the Cardinals of Louisville in a game that is forever etched in my memory.

Back in those days, memorabilia wasn’t available like it is now, and I became a collector of “unique” Bama stuff.   Good luck stuff – and the passion of collecting Alabama Memorabilia began to rival the passion of being a fan.  Whether it was a statue of an Elephant or a Bama Football player, and I begin to collect unique things as the years passed.

My collection of unique Memorabilia has continued to grow, and turned into my collection of Tide Rides. Each year for the past 8 years, one or more of the Tide Rides, have been part of the annual Bama Homecoming in Tuscaloosa.  That too has been a great experience as a fan, to see the faces of other fans enjoy the parade.

I developed this space to share those with you as a collector or as a Bama fan, I hope you enjoy.

Each week during football season, I update this site (Blog-Scroll Down) and share my thoughts and my predictions about the upcoming game.

To the left, you can click on the links for portions of my collection and the Tide Rides.

I would like to invite you to check out what the folks at Reese's have done.  The official candy of NCAA football, contacted me with interest in doing a story about "TIDE RIDES" and the fan who would have such a collection.  Yours truly obliged, and it was a good decision.  The crew spent a few hours with Michele and me and were the nicest people.  The entire crew was fantastic, but special thanks to Joey, Sarah and Marty.  You are welcome back anytime !!! There is a link at the bottom for you to enjoy the segment..entitled, "BAMA'S BIGGEST FAN"  ....yeah, I know.....  keep the comments about the title to yourselves...

WOW.. What a GREAT SEASON and HERE WE GO AGAIN.

Greetings Fellow Tide Fans!!!

For those of you who by chance come here to read what my thoughts are about each game...and you may be wondering.. "Where in the heck have you been?"  well the answer is simple..superstition.. Laughing  It's like this..I didn't post after the Bowl Game against Utah..and Bama went all the way in 2009....so I decided to stay the course and not post after the BCS game..and hopefully that MoJo will work again in 2010.   I had friends, and non friends chide me for not posting after the Utes took care of the Tide.. saying I was ashamed ...etc...so I digress.  Suffice to say... 2009 was a great year.

I am very proud to say.. that I was among the privileged fans who saw the Tide ROLL OVER THE LONGHORNS on the way to their 13th National Title.   What an experience!! IT was my first trip to Los Angeles.. my first Trip to the Rose Bowl and my 2nd Opportunity to witness The Tide win an National Title, and Im happy to say they are 2 for 2 when I attended.   Was very fortunate to have my wife by my side as Bama took the field and as they had done in every other game , Took Care of Business.   No Heisman Jinx .... Ingram ran like a thoroughbred... the Defense played typical Saban opportunistic, physical football and took advantage of turnovers...and rolled to the final 37 - 21 victory.

REPEAT ?

Yes it is a daunting task indeed to repeat as the Champion at any sport.  But we all know it can be done. I have seen it done during the Bryant years and I must say the opportunity for Bama is certainly there again, in my humble opinion.   Bama has a difficult schedule this year ..as did they last year, but this time there is a stretch that will be extremely difficult with the likes of Penn State... not to mention the Gators at Tuscaloosa in the middle of road games between South Carolina and Arkansas.   Indeed it will be difficult, but the offense is loaded, and the defense, though young...very talented and they have game experience.  The chink in the armor (if one exists) is the secondary. Very young and very inexperienced in spots.   So all that being said...yes it will be difficult to repeat, but.. I think the odds are in Alabama's favor.

As the New Season Approaches

Media Darlings -Coach Saban allowed cameras into his professional inner sanctum for a one-hour behind-the-scenes ESPN special filmed early in fall camp. Plus the documentary "GAME CHANGER" about the 2009 season premiered in theaters in 4 States Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee, this past week and weekend.

For the Coach and the Tide.. it's free publicity and a great recruiting tool.. with minimal time taken away from the normal activities... OH and did I mention the ESPN - Home Depot commerical with he and Mack Brown?  Yep.. more publicity.

WEEK 1  San Jose State

Fans attending this game will own the dubious distinction of being part of the Largest Crowd Ever..to see The Crimson Tide play a game in Tuscaloosa.  Expansion at the Stadium is complete and Tide Fans are expected to exceed the one hundred thousand mark, with the capacity of just over 101 thousand ... I can just hear Rammer Jammer with that many singingLaughing

2009 San Jose State record: 2-10, 1-7 WAC. The Spartans tied for eighth place in the Western Athletic Conference.

Of course this is a typical first game, if you look across the spectrum of games on Saturday you will see match ups like this everywhere...but for Bama this is a non-typical starter, after begining the past two years with Va Tech and Clemson.. so the excitement that has been there for the opener the past two years won't be there, but it shouldn't be a factor in this one.   Bama will use this as a warm up for next weeks Top 20 opponent Penn State.

I feel confident in this pick..of course I am coming off a 14 -0 streak from last year :)

Bama will handle the Spartans to the tune of 48-13.  Giving the youngsters an opportunity to play.

Roll Tide and See you next week.
